Permaculture
There's a lot of info about permaculture out there, so we compiled what we know or have found helpful and put it all here for you to enjoy :)
FOUNDATIONAL ETHICS
What is Permaculture?
Permaculture is a philosophical set of ethics and principles for community building and land management inspired by the success of natural ecosystems.

Earth Care
Provisioning for all life systems on Earth to continue and multiply.
People Care
People must have access to those resources necessary for their existence.
Fair Share
Continuous growth in a finite system must provide for a return of surplus to the Earth and people to be sustainable.
Our common passion leads us to gather in nature, as part of it, where a diversity of people, plants, pollinators, and more unite!
What is a Forest Garden / Food Forest?: A Grouping of Guilds
An ecological guild is a grouping of plants, trees, animals, insects, and other components that work together to help ensure their health and productivity. Within a guild each species provides a unique set of diverse services that work in harmony. A grouping of these guilds is called a Forest Garden or Food Forest.
An Edible Forest Garden is a food producing landscape that mimics the natural forest ecosystem, designed to feed both people and the soil by including edible species and integrating protector plants with other natural elements to maximize benefits to the environment. These permaculture-style guilds create a self-regulating, sustainable system by featuring fruit and/or nut trees, surrounded by companion plants that provide nutrients, pollination, habitat, mulch, pest & disease control to benefit the whole plant community.
Everything has a purpose in this nature-inspired system, with ground cover crops helping to retain moisture and preventing weeds from taking over, the canopy offering filtered light to the plants below and dropping leaves that act as mulch for the winter, strong smelling plants that deter pests and offer habitat for beneficial animals and insects, and other beneficial species that add minerals and nutrients to the living soil, which in turn feeds its neighbours.

Groundcover
Plants that grow closer to the ground in dense formations which include mainly herbs and cover crops that provide nutrients to the soil.
Underground Layer
Provides a path for water and air and breathes life into the soil; including all plant root layers and root crops [such as potatoes], fungi, insects, worms, etc.
Vertical/Climber Layer
Climbers or vines that have adapted to use other species as structural support; includes mainly food producing plants [like beans] to add productivity.
Aquatic/Wetland Layer
Plants which can survive on the water's edge or in water; includes herbs and plants that are a good source of food, fiber, animal feed, and compost
Mycelial/Fungal Layer
Can tie into the underground layer, including fungal networks [mushrooms, etc.] that can transport nutrients and moisture throughout ecosystems.
